Amazing Travel Adventures – Maine

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Hello, and welcome to Amazing Travel Adventures – Maine sharing My Travel Destination Guide for a few of my favorite things to do in Maine. Read on to explore Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park, Maine Botanical Gardens, L.L. Bean’s Flagship Store and so much more. Let’s travel Maine style!

Thunder Hole

Thunder Hole is a small inlet that is naturally carved out of the shoreline along Maine’s coastline. Waves from the ocean roll in and out as the tide changes. When a wave is large enough, it causes a deep thunder rumble that can be heard throughout Acadia National Park. It is something to see and to hear on your Amazing Travel Adventure. For more information and videos visit the National Park Services website.

Nubble Lighthouse

Nubble Lighthouse is located on the little island of York, off the southern coast of Maine. Originally built in 1879 the lighthouse is still used today. The lighthouse and its grounds are not open to the public, but you can take photos as you sail, kayak, canoe on by. There is also parking available to enjoy the view, just not o the island itself. It is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world, and I can see why. For more information on the lighthouse’s history and places to park for the best views visit their website

Cadillac Mountain

Cadillac Mountain Sunrise. Watching a sunrise has always been a great way to start any day. Cadillac Mountain is the first place in the continental United States to see the sunrise from October to early March and it gets a bit crowded pre-sunrise on New Year’s Day, or any day really. Its an amazing way to start the year but, yes, it does get crowded! Cadillac Mountain is located on Desert Island within Acadia National Park. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is located in Boothbay, Maine. The gardens have been named one of Maine’s top attractions to see and experience. Its gardens and landscape include nearly a mile of tidewater shoreline making it the largest botanical gardens in New England. There are several gardens to choose from to experience and explore. And did I mention trolls?! The gardens have trolls! For more information and updates visit their website.

Maine Windjammer Cruises

Maine Windjammer Cruises offer a bit of maritime history along with the best views to be seen of Maine’s coastline. The fleet was established in 1936 and is the oldest fleet of historic vessels that offer an all inclusive amazing travel adventure. You can lend the crew a hand with sailing the ship or sit back, relax and enjoy the view. Friendship making is at the top of the list for things to do. The adventure offers rowing, swimming, music, dining and star gazing. Depending on the length of your cruise, one night will include a Lobster Bake on an island, or a Lobster Feast aboard the schooner. To start planning your Windjammer getaway click here.

Atlantic Puffin Colonies

Are you planning a trip to Maine? When making your list put Atlantic Puffin Colonies at the top of your must see list. Also, make sure your travel to Maine between the months of May through August, that is Puffin time! The Maine coastline and Islands in the Atlantic Ocean are the only nesting sites for Atlantic Puffins in the United States. Book an excursion out to the islands to see these bright billed creatures. I recommend booking a tour with Cap’n Fish’s Cruises to see seals, porpoises, dolphins, seabirds, sunfish, sharks and of course, puffins! For more information and updates visit their website.

L.L. Bean Headquarters

L.L. Bean’s Flagship Store is located in Freeport, Maine. You can tell you are in the right place by the big boot in front of their headquarters. It is probably the most photographed boot in the world. The headquarters offer so much history and so much shopping. Freeport, Maine is the place for quality outdoor gear, apparel and footwear. To see the latest apparel available click here.

Blueberry Picking

Blueberry picking. It’s Maine, of course there will be blueberry picking! There are blueberry fields located throughout the state and a must try during your visit. There are several farm locations where you can make arrangements to pick your own blueberries to take home, or to your hotel room. For picking location information, schedules and more click here.

Stephen King Tour

Well you are in luck, all of those movies have parts that were filmed in Maine, and you know how much of a movie set / location fan I am! Join SK Tours as they explore Stephen King’s Derry, Maine.
