Amazing Travel Adventures – Maryland

Hello, and Welcome to Amazing Travel Adventures – Maryland. This travel destination guide shares East Coast Harbors, National Aquariums, Storytellers’ Grave sites and much more.

National HARBOR

The National Harbor can be found on the Potomac River, south of Washington, DC. This amazing travel adventure is full of shops, boutiques, places to eat and more. My top of the list to see and do is to take a ride on The Capital Wheel. From the top its circle, 180 feet high, riders have an amazing view of the Potomac River, the National Mall and even the White House. For hours, ticket prices, history and more visit their website.

Ocean City Boardwalk

Ocean City Boardwalk can be found along the East Coast Coastline and has over 3 miles of fun and adventure to offer all ages. Amusement parks, restaurants, and specialty shops can be found throughout the Boardwalk area. The area also offers bike rentals, fishing spots, and a volleyball park for the more active adventures. The boardwalk is a great place to visit all year long. For more information and a walking map click here.

Sandy Point State Park

Sandy Point State Park – a 786 acre public recreation area on Chesapeake Bay. It is known for its swimming beaches, boating and fishing. The Park also has public restrooms with changing rooms and showers, snack bars, picnic areas and an amazing view of the Bay Bridge. You all know how I feel abut bridges! If you are not a water or beach person the area also has basketball courts and a lighthouse to explore. For Park hours, ticket prices, history and more visit their website.

National AQUARIUM

National Aquarium – This Amazing Travel Adventure is located in Baltimore, Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. The Aquarium contains more than 17,00 different types of specimens and 750 different species. Learn about animals from all over the world and how water connects them all. Looking for a more hands on approach to learning? You can get your hands dirty at a field conservation event or at an education, restoration or rescue community event. Hours, exhibits and walking maps of the Aquarium can be found here.

Ladew Topiary Gardens

Ladew Topiary Gardens – is located in Monkton, Maryland. The Gardens cover over 20 acres and contains 15 garden rooms showcasing different themes, plants and colors. You will find foxes, horses, a giraffe and several swans throughout the Gardens.

The grounds also includes a nature trail, just over 1 mile, that takes walkers along the Piedmont plateau. The House is also open to the public and boosts one of the most beautiful rooms in America. The Gardens open and close per season so I highly recommend checking out their website prior to planning your next amazing travel adventure.

United States Naval Academy

U.S Naval Academy – The academy is located in Annapolis, Maryland. This institution is where U.S Navy and Marine Corps members receive their four year undergraduate training. Wanting to learn more about this academy of mystery? Guided walking tours are available. To schedule a tour, learn more of the Academy’s history or view their photo galley visit their website. You can take the girl out of the Navy, but you can never take the Navy out of the girl! So, Army fans might want to pass on this adventure.

Edgar Allen Poe’s Gravesite

Edgar Allan Poe’s Grave – Poe died on October 7, 1849. Poe’s original resting place was an unmarked grave. But, Nevermore. Years after his death, teachers and students raised money to pay for a proper monument. This monument is what can be seen today at the corner of Fayette Street and Greene Street. It is a sight to see. Don’t believe ask the thousands of visitors that come each year. Click here to discover his writings, dates and times of the International Poe Festival, how to become a member of the Edgar Allan Poe Society and more. “All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.”

Graffiti Alley

“NO RULES” says a Muslim woman with a bandolier and a gun as you enter Graffiti Alley. A hidden gem located in the alley near North Howard Street. Spraying graffiti in the state of Maryland is illegal, like 3 years in prison and a large fine illegal, but in Graffiti Alley graffiti is legal. It will never be the same alley twice. Street artists spend hours at the site repainting over and over again all year long. It is Street Art art at its finest, and I Love Street Art! Click here to find events, art for sale and more. The Graffiti Warehouse is adjacent to Graffiti Alley.
