Amazing Travel Adventures – Michigan

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Hello and welcome to my latest travel guide destination blog post Amazing Travel Adventures – Michigan. Together we can explore Mackinac Island (the arch, the state park and of course the island itself), the Motown Museum (where my favorite kind of music was created), Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (or the U.P for those in the know and now you know) and what it has to offer and see plus so much more. Get your trip planner out and let’s travel Michigan style!

Mackinac Island State Park

I love natural beauty and Arch Rock is no exception. Arch Rock can be found in Mackinac Island State Park. Mackinac Island State Park is located on Mackinac Island. Actually the majority of the island is a part of the State Park. It reminds me of those dolls that sit inside of the other and get smaller and smaller? Visitors arrive by ferry or plane and explore by bicycle, foot or horse. There are no vehicles on the island. The island is less than 5 square miles and offers breathtaking views and soak in the peaceful atmosphere. Or enjoy hiking, swimming and many more activities for the busy, even on vacation visitor. Motown Museum

The Motown Museum is located in Detroit and was home to the Motown recording label creating records from 1959 to 1972. These records in turn created the amazing, foot tapping, fingers snapping and unforgettable Motown Sound. The museum tour showcases The Jackson 5, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and so many more. If you love music and music history, this is a must see on your list when visiting Detroit. I am tapping toes just thinking of all the music created there.

Plan your visit here.

Pictured Rocks National Seashore

Pictured Pocks National Seashore is located on Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Pennisula, or “U.P” as the locals like to call it. The shoreline covers over 40 miles of beautiful beaches, sand dunes, sandstone cliffs and more. If sand isn’t your thing, the forest land offers hiking trails, waterfalls and castles. There is something for everyone and every level of adventure. I highly recommend the ferry tour around the island. Beautiful sights to see and someone else is driving!

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is located in Traverse City and has something for everyone, at least I think it does. Put this amazing travel adventure on your must list if you are a fan of beautiful landscapes to take in, sandy beaches (I miss my toes in the sand), lush forests to explore, hiking trails (over 100 miles of trails) and more! If you are not a hiker, you can bike, kayak or swim. Sleeping Bear Dunes is not just a summertime destination, it is beautiful in the summer though. During the winter there is snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding and more available for visitors and locals alike.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park

Tahquamenon Falls is one of the largest waterfalls, over 200 feet across, east of the Mississippi River. The State Park, where this massive body of water is located, covers nearly 50,000 acres within Michigan’s U.P. (Upper Peninsula) A boat launch, check. Campgrounds (for tents and a lodge) is a check. Hiking trails, is a very big check with many miles to explore! Click here to learn more and make your reservation.

The Falls website states: The river’s amber color is caused by tannin leached from the cedar, spruce and hemlock trees in the swamps drained by the river, and the extremely soft water churned by the action of the falls causes the river’s trademark large amounts of foam. They had me at tannin, but please do not drink the water. The waterfall is not wine 🙁

Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary

Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary is home to almost 100 historic shipwrecks that took place in Lake Huron. The shipwrecks offer a look into Michigan’s history (over 200 years worth of ships) and it’s commercial shipping industry. The sunken ships made of wood and steel and shows all that was taking place on dry land. Photo courtesy of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

Are you ready to explore this sanctuary above or below the water? I am not scuba certified so I opted for the glass-bottom boat tour. The clear waters make it feel like you are up close and personal with the ships below without getting wet.
