Hello and welcome to Amazing Travel Adventures – Iowa. This travel destination guide shares must see and do things all about Iowa. Read on to explore Covered Bridges, a Field of Dreams, Pike Peak State Park and so much more. Let’s Travel Iowa style!
Cedar Covered Bridge

If you know me at all, you know that I LOVE Bridges! Traveling the covered Bridges of Madison County had to top my list for Amazing Travel Adventures in Iowa. Madison County is the Covered Bridge Capital of Iowa and has the largest number of covered bridges West of the Mississippi. Cedar Covered Bridge is one of my favorites! Do you like covered bridges? Field of Dreams
Build it and they will come! Filming of The Field of Dreams movie began on May 25, 1988. The final scene is what dreams are made of! The city of Dyersville was blacked out and local extras drove their vehicles to the field. In order to give the illusion of movement, the drivers were instructed to continuously switch between their low and high beams. The effect was awe inspiring and brought a tear to my eye! I know, I know, I am a softy for dreams coming true.
Fans can now spend the night in the farmhouse’s one bedroom upstairs and enjoy the “Kinsella Experience.” Guests will be greeted personally by the Movie Site staff and will receive a complimentary gift basket. I highly recommend booking their guided 30 minutes tour. It takes you inside the farmhouse and shares its history as a home up through it becoming the movie set. PikeS Peak State Park

Pikes Peak State Park is known for its 500 foot bluff overlooking the Mississippi. The park is operated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and has 1000 acres to explore and experience. A half-mile hike over a wooden boardwalk guides you down to Bridal Veil Falls. Have your camera charged and ready. You can thank me for it later! Looking for a longer hike? Head out to Point Ann, a bluff that overlooks the Mississippi and the town of McGregor and is 8 miles round trip.
The Park’s campground offers electric and non-electric sites, modern shower, restroom facilities, and a trailer dump station. Start planning your next getaway by visiting their website.
Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad
The Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad is open Memorial Day Weekend through October 31. The Railroad will be offering Pre-Season Specials May 6, May 13 and May 20. Classic Coach tickets are $24 for adults and $9 for kids. This amazing travel adventure operates freight and passenger excursions in Boone County, Iowa. During your journey you will be crossing Bass Point Creek High Bridge, over 150 feet tall and highly recommended to see, travel, experience!
Want to learn the history of the railroad? Be sure to visit the James H Andrew Railroad Museum. The Museum offers a learning experience, snacks and souvenirs. Purchase your tickets at bsvrr.com/tickets, or by calling 515-432-4249. All aboard!

Maquoketa Caves State Park

Maquoketa Caves State Park is located in Jackson County, Iowa. The Park has more caves than any other State Park and is one of Iowa’s most unique outdoor attractions. This amazing travel adventure requires your camera, hiking shoes and a flashlight! You will want to go exploring into the darkness, it will be worth it! An updated and well kept trail system connects all of the caves, formations and overlooks. I highly recommend stopping at the Natural Bridge that covers Raccoon Creek, its a bridge you know I would recommend it! Also the photo perfect 17-ton Balanced Rock. Does this Rock make me look fat?! Sarcasm at its finest. Sorry, not sorry.
The park has something for everyone that loves the outdoors and exploring. Spring wildflowers, check. Summertime green, yes! The changing of the leaves is Autumn is one of my favorites! Winter snow transforms the park into a winter wonderland to wander and wander and wander! Learn more by clicking here.
