Treat yourself to Oregon’s Can’t Miss Events – OryCon! The fan-run event will be held at the Red Lion Hotel on the river in Portland, Oregon. Mark November 12 to 14 on your calendars to attend. This year’s theme? Humor, Satire and Parody in Science Fiction!

OryCon is an Oregon staple that has been running since 1979. This amazing adventure caters to fans and enthusiasts across the country. Last year, in 2020, the convention had to take it to the digital space. Events and attendees had to be limited because of the coronavirus pandemic. OryCon’s successful, free, online mini-con was held last year.With restrictions modified the organizers have decided to set up a full-fledged convention. There will be enhanced safety protocols to be followed by all staff and attendees.

What You Can Expect at OryCon 42

After a year without physical events, OryCon is expected to come back better than ever. This year’s convention will display so much creativeness. There will be dealers and fan tables showcasing merchandise from a wide variety of fandoms. You will also see an art show featuring some of the finest artists around Portland. The art media shown will range from applique, taxidermy, en-caustic, and collage. A feast for the eyes.

To top it all off, you can further immerse yourself in the artistic experience by visiting OryCon’s Creation Station. Experience crafting, performing, and storytelling. A see it, feel it, be it section of the convention that you wouldn’t want to miss. 

Creation Station will have Kitten Caboodle, the Doctor Who Live Script Reading, beading, yarn spinning, fanfic writing, and a junkyard costume portion. Witness the techniques of other artists. Learn how you can improve your own craft or share your ideas with others.

You also wouldn’t want to miss this year’s roster of special guests. OryCon 2021 will be featuring:

A. Lee Martinez

Writing for over 15 years, A. Lee Martinez is well-known in the science fiction and fantasy community. He says his style is Saturday Morning Humanism, which is evident in his award-winning works. 

Perhaps his most notable novels to date are Gil’s All Fright Diner. And A Nameless Witch. Both of have received prestigious literary awards. His current project, Constance Verity Trilogy, will be made into a film by Legendary Pictures.

Jeff and Maya Bohnhoff, Musicians

Jeff and Maya Bohnhoff love to write a parodies and original songs. This music making duo is well-received and well-loved by the science fiction community. Jeff and Maya are no stranger to OryCon either– they were the Friends of Filk Special Guests during OryCon 24.

Betty Bigelow, Artist

Who is Betty Bigelow you say? You may know by her alternate name, Rena Bassilvergoran. Betty Bigelow has been showcasing her pieces at conventions across the country. So much talent. A skilled artist. A singer. A dancer. A musician. And a costumer. Watch this Renaissance woman in action during OryCon 2021!

Where You Can Get Tickets

Online registration for the convention has already closed. You can still secure tickets at the door. Children aged 5 and under can enter for free. Youth tickets are $37.50. Adult tickets are $70. 

The event will allow service animals to enter the event free of charge. They can even get a commemorative badge from the event.

While it’s not absolutely necessary, the event organizers suggest that you book a room at the Red Lion Hotel for your convenience. You can reserve rooms as early as now as you plan your trip, so you can enjoy a fun-filled and worry-free convention experience. The after dark events are worth seeing and experiencing.
