A Stands for Amazing Travel Adventures – Maryland

Hello, and welcome to the next edition of My Travel Destination Guide. This week we are traveling to Maryland.

Maryland is a small state located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. It is known for its abundant waterways and coastlines on the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. If you like beaches, history and unusual art Maryland is the place for you!

HARBORS, and BOARDWALKS and PARKS, OH MY

1. National Harbor – located on the Potomac River and is full of shops, boutiques and places to eat. My top of the list to see and do is The Capital Wheel. From the top of the circle, 180 feet high, riders have an amazing view of the Potomac River, the National Mall and even the White House. 2. Ocean City Boardwalk – over 30 blocks of shops, amusements, eateries, hotels and nightlife. For more information and a walking map visit their website at www.ocboards.com or click here.

3. Sandy Point State Park – a 786 acre public recreation area on Chesapeake Bay. It is known for its swimming beaches. It also has amazing marina for boating and fishing. AQUARIUMS, and GARDENS, and and ACADEMY, YES, PLEASE

1. National Aquarium – The aquarium is located in Baltimore, Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay and contains more than 17,00 different types of specimens and 750 different species. 2. Ladew Topiary Gardens – is located in Monkton, Maryland. There are seven different gardens on the property and includes a trail that takes walkers along the Piedmont plateau. 3. U.S Naval Academy – The academy is located in Annapolis, Maryland. The institution is where U.S Navy and Marine Corps members receive their four year undergraduate training. You can take the girl out of the Navy, but you can never take the Navy out of the girl! So, Army fans might want to pass on this adventure.

ODDITIES and CURIOSITIES

1. Edgar Allan Poe’s Grave – Poe died on October 7, 1849. He was originally buried in an unmarked grave. But, Nevermore. Years after his death, teachers and students raised money to pay for a proper monument. It is what can be seen today to honor the great author. 2. Graffiti Alley – is a hidden alley in urban Baltimore, Maryland. It is graffiti art at its finest. It is legal to graffiti at the alley, so the walls and sidewalks are covered in amazing urban pieces of art. I love Street Art and this is one place that can not be missed. (Hint: look for the alley near North Howard Street).

3. Dr Gloom’s Crypt of Curiosities – This gallery of unusualness is located in the back room of Protean Books and Records. It is a delightful mix of the macabre, the occult and so many curiosities.
